DOG OWNER SUBJECT TO COURT ORDER - COLNEY HEATH

A DOG owner from Colney Heath has been subject to a court order after their dog was involved in a number of incidents during 2008.

Officers from the London Colney Neighbourhood Team and St Albans District Council’s Animal Warden received a number of reports of a Weimaraner attacking other dogs in the village.

Despite a warning and advice from the Animal Warden being given to the owner about controlling the dog, more incidents occurred and the owner was eventually summonsed to court.

During a hearing at St Albans Magistrates Court on Tuesday, February 10, the owner was subject to a court order with control measures. These include muzzling the dog in a public place, the dog being put on a lead in a public place, and being walked by a person over 18.

Sergeant Mark Andrews of the London Colney Neighbourhood Team said: “I am pleased with the outcome of this hearing and I hope the owner now takes responsibility of keeping their dog under control seriously. I also hope this sends a strong message to other owners in the area and they keep their dogs in control in a public place.”

St Albans City and District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Engagement and Support commented: “Aggressive dogs are a menace not only to people but also to other dogs. If irresponsible owners refuse to heed advice then it is right that the Council's Animal Warden Service seeks a court order to impose control measures.”
